This scholarship fund was established in 1997 by Steve Montoya ('77, Electrical and Computer Engineering) and his wife, Sheri Stonier-Montoya, as a way to show their appreciation to the CALESS student organization and the positive impact it had on Steve's life and career. The purpose has been to provide financial support to CALESS students who are pursuing engineering and sciences. As of December 2020, there have been 20 awardees over 23 years.
According to Steve, "CALESS was founded with a basic premise of helping each other. This principle has stood the test of time and is needed now more than ever."
In the spirit of community, Steve asks CALESS alumni to consider “paying it forward." Contributions of all amounts are appreciated and a symbol of your support. The goal is to double the current endowed principal of $57,000 which annually supports two $1,000 scholarships, to expand the impact on students.
Steve believes this scholarship is a representation of all of CALESS students and alumni. Now, every person associated with CALESS today, in the past or in the future can show their appreciation and support of these fantastic students.
