This endowment fund supports educational activities that enrich graduate student experiences in geotechnical engineering through support of graduate student participation in professional conferences, hosting of scholars to engage in extended interactions with geotechnical graduate students, and providing exposure to major geotechnical projects or other special training opportunities. Emphasis is placed on activities that maximize the number of graduate students who benefit. This endowment fund honors Professor Idriss' lifelong commitment to a broader education and mentoring of geotechnical engineering students toward careers founded in technical excellence, leadership, and fellowship.

The endowment fund was founded in 2016 with a generous gift from Mariam and Izzat M. Idriss, supporting donations from the geotechnical engineering community, and the proceeds of the 2016 Symposium in Honor of I. M. Idriss. Founding donors from the geotechnical engineering community were GEI Consultants, Farrell Design Build, Haley & Aldrich, Klohn Crippen Berger, Earth Mechanics, Geosyntec Consultants, HDR, Sage Engineers, Pat & Sally Lucia, Langan Treadwell Rollo, Amec Foster Wheeler, Ross & Joyce Boulanger, Fugro, ConeTec, California Push Technologies, MWH Global, PG&E, ENGEO, AECOM, Arup, Terra Insurance Company, Lelio & Sandra Mejia, GeoEngineers, Shannon & Wilson, Tensar, Les & Susana Harder, Applied Geodynamics, GeoPentech, Jason & Julie DeJong, Hayward-Baker, Rockridge Geotechnical, Mike & Ann Duncan, Petra Geosciences, and Ken & Lynn Stokoe.

Izzat M. Idriss is a professor emeritus of geotechnical engineering at UC Davis and is one of the world's most respected researchers and practitioners in geotechnical and geotechnical earthquake engineering. His numerous honors include election to the US National Academy of Engineering in 1989, ASCE's H. Bolton Seed Medal in 1995, UC Davis' Distinguished Public Service Award in 1999, ISSMGE's Ishihara Lecture in 2007, EERI's Housner Medal in 2018, and ASCE's Terzaghi Lecture in 2019.

Your contributions to this fund will help to further enrich the graduate school experience for students in geotechnical engineering and support Idriss' legacy of fostering technical excellence, leadership, and fellowship in our next generation of geotechnical engineers.
