Ruminant Health & Microbiology Program

Microorganisms play a significant role in the health and productivity of the ruminant animal. Changes of the composition of the microbial community that inhabits the animal’s digestive system can have severe effects on the well-being of the animal and the products (e.g. dairy and meat) that our society relies on.

Your gift to the Ruminant Health & Microbiology Fund supports research in the Functional Systems Microbiology Laboratory to enhance our understanding on how microbes affect the health of ruminant animals and to develop more sustainable practices in livestock production systems, with a special emphasis on the dairy and meat industry in California.
