It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the recent passing of Dr. Eric Conn. Dr. Conn helped support the growth of the Arboretum for more than 50 years as a volunteer, donor, leader, researcher and advocate.
In 2001, Dr. Conn and his wife established the Louise and Eric Conn Endowment Fund to provide ongoing unrestricted support for the Arboretum. By creating this permanent fund, they hoped to inspire others to support the Arboretum.
Dr. Conn was a Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry at UC Davis and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He became involved in the Arboretum through his use of the Arboretum’s collections to research cyanide-producing plants, including acacias. Beginning in the 1960’s Dr. Conn advised on the expansion of the Arboretum’s acacia collection. Today the Eric E. Conn Acacia Grove - named in his honor - is one of the premier scientific collections in the UC Davis Arboretum featuring over 50 different acacia species including one named after him (Acacia conniana). Dr. Conn also served as President of the Friends of the Davis Arboretum from 1980 to1984 and 1990 to 1992.
We are grateful to Dr. Conn and his wife for their vision in creating the Louise and Eric Conn Endowment Fund. Thank you for considering making a gift to their Fund as a way of honoring Eric and Louise Conn and their legacy of support for the Arboretum.
