Native American Honoring Project

The Native American Honoring Project has a multi-layered and nuanced story, one which emerged from the collision between how Indigenous peoples see themselves and how the Western world sees them. It reflects what is possible when an institution like UC Davis allows itself to be guided by a respected and beloved Patwin elder and, as such, becomes an example of what it means when the West works in an honorable way with the people original to a land. In the historic moment when the Indigenous "Land Back" movement is gaining strength, the Committee to Honor Patwin and Native Americans at UC Davis hopes that this project contributes to a sharpened awareness of the broader context of that movement.
