Phyllis (Corbett) Steckel first visited UC Davis on Picnic Day in the Spring of 1969. Five years later, she was a UC Davis graduate. Richard and Phyllis Steckel both have agriculture roots in their families’ histories. Richard’s career was in aviation – he flew over a lot of farm and ranch land. Phyllis’ career was in geology – she saw a lot of land, soil, rock, topography, runoff, and landform features. Because the Steckels already have endowed several other aviation, geoscience, and nursing scholarships at other institutions, they decided to arrange this gift to support the UC Davis Student Farm. This endowment provides support for the Student Farm in the area of greatest need.
