In 2018, alumni and friends established the Friends of the Sustainable Living and Learning Communities (SLLC) at UC Davis to support students advancing social justice and environmental sustainability at UC Davis and to invest in the vision of the SLLC for sustainable, student-led development of the west campus area including the Student Farm and the Domes. Our goal is to fund at least two Green Fellows per year from 2019-2024 and ensure ongoing support for the SLLC development. Each gift to this initiative is allocated 70% to the Green Fellowships Program, and 30% to the SLLC Program and Planning Fund. In 2018, founding donors each committed at least $2,500 to this effort. Thanks to them, we launched and supported the 2018-2019 fellows in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Whole Earth Festival. Green Fellowship awards are made on a competitive basis to inter-disciplinary project proposals that relate to the SLLC programs and infrastructure and the community education and engagement aspect of UC Davis’s Land Grant mission. Current friends of the SLLC may make pledge payments through this online giving portal and new donors are encouraged to contribute and note in the comments if they wish to commit to a five-year pledge.
