The Sean & Anne Duffey and Hugh & Geraldine Dingle Research Fellowship fund was set-up to honor the friendship of two professors from the UC Davis Department of Entomology, Sean Duffey and Hugh Dingle. Sean and Hugh knew each other as colleagues before they both taught for the department, but their friendship was strengthened when Sean joined the Entomology faculty at UC Davis in 1976 and Hugh followed shortly thereafter, joining Sean in 1982. Their close association continued and included two years when they jointly taught Biological Sciences 1B. Tragically, the association ended with Sean’s premature death in May 1997. Hugh became Emeritus Professor in December 2002 and he and his wife Geraldine started this fellowship in 2014 to reflect his and Sean’s love of teaching and research.

Hugh and Jeri’s goal in establishing this fellowship fund is for it to reach $100,000, which would provide over $4,000 a year to UC Davis graduate students from any campus unit whose major professor has a faculty appointment within the Graduate Program of Entomology and Nematology. In honor of Sean and Hugh’s areas of research, preference for the award will be given to students studying arthropod chemical ecology and/or arthropod evolution and biology. Funds can be used for research expenses, including travel, conferences and field research. In order to reach the goal of $100,000 Hugh and Jeri have generously offered to match all donations to the fund, up to $50,000.

Your gift to this fund will honor Sean and Hugh’s love of teaching and research and encourage the next generation of entomologists to pursue their dreams.
