The primary goal of the E. L. Niño Bee Lab is to support honey bee health and the beekeeping industry through extension and research efforts. The Niño Lab offers a variety of beekeeping courses and educational opportunities for beekeepers, future beekeepers, other agricultural professionals and the public. Most recently, the lab has implemented the first California Master Beekeeper Program. Our research interests encompass basic and applied approaches to understanding and improving honey bee health with emphasis on queen health, pathogen and pest mitigation, as well as augmentation of agricultural management practices for improved honey bee and pollinator health.
