Danzantes del Alma, the student folklorico dance troupe of UC Davis established in 1977, has made it possible to celebrate traditional and contemporary Mexican, Chicanx, and Latinx cultures through learning and performing traditional dances of Mexico and contemporary dances of the Chicanx/Latinx experience.
Danzantes del Alma fosters and nurtures student leadership, intellectual curiosity, and artistic expression through this art of folklorico. The troupe also focuses on promoting higher education by providing educational programs to area schools and communities, as well as serving as role models for youth. Formerly known as “Ballet Folklórico del Alma”, Danzantes del Alma began with the initiative of a group of students. Within a short period of time, they built a repertoire, wardrobe and received performance requests throughout the community.
Any donation, no matter the amount, will help Danzantes del Alma Dance troupe members, which include undergraduate and graduate/professional students at UC Davis. Here are some examples of the impact of your support:
$40 covers the cost of membership fees for the academic year for 1 member
$50 covers the cost for 1 pair of earrings, 1 set of bloomers, 1 base bun
$100 covers 1 pair of new dance shoes with nails
$150 helps pay for a dancer's performance package (which includes 1 base bun, 1 practice skirt, 1 pair of earrings, 1 set of bloomers, and 1 membership fee).
