Your gift to the AYA cancer program at UC Davis will help support the Pushing Past Cancer conference and many social activities for our young adult cancer patients to connect with peers who are going through similar circumstances.

Adolescents and young adults (AYA), aged 16 to 39 years, affected by cancer have some of the poorest survival rates in our nation; these patients often fall “between the cracks” in our healthcare systems without access to the right physician teams and therapies. AYA cancers include acute leukemia, sarcomas, brain tumors, liver cancers and melanoma, and sometimes cancers more commonly seen in older adults, such as breast and colon cancer. AYA cancers are biologically and genetically different that their adult or pediatric counterparts, and, they may respond better to therapies developed for younger children or to newer targeted therapies. AYA cancer patients face unique and often lifelong challenges. Lingering effects from these cancers can last decades and second cancers in children and AYA’s are far deadlier than they are in older adults.
