Daniel H. Calhoun, professor emeritus at the University of California, Davis, passed away on March 23, 2019, at the age of 91 in Santa Rosa, California. Calhoun taught at Davis from 1966 until his retirement in 1991. This award will provide support for graduate students in the Department of History who have advanced to candidacy and are studying the history of North America in the Nineteenth Century. Their studies/work should touch on some aspect of the intersections of race, class, gender, power, and the use of political violence.
