Spencer Charles Martinez Memorial Fund

Spencer Charles Martinez ’96 was born December 5, 1973, and died May 7, 2018, from a sudden heart attack. He was 44. His family created the Spencer Charles Martinez Memorial Fund to support the UC Davis Theatre Department and to honor Spencer's memory. The scholarship fund will provide resources for a broad spectrum of performance opportunities for theater students as well as cover related production expenses.

Spencer was a special person. He was a recipient of the Marin County Academic Decathlon Champion Award in high school, and graduated with a major in Agriculture Economics with honors from UC Davis, and from UC Hastings Law. He was admitted, with his two lawyer brothers, to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 2011.

Though kind and caring, he was often described as a "Proud Social Warrior.” Spencer was a true Renaissance man, a skilled trial attorney with many interests who loved to spend time with family and friends.

He grew up with opera and the theater, and had great pride and happy satisfaction as a student performer in theatrical productions at UC Davis. He was a proud Aggie. All who knew him, performed with him, and worked with him miss his wit, kindness, charm, intelligence, and, enthusiasm for all that life offered.
