Tea is the number one prepared beverage in the world - only water is consumed more. Cultural exchange and goodwill, medicine and nutrition, trade and commerce, plant and social sciences, agriculture and the arts all come together around this extraordinary beverage. Tea’s continued importance in the international marketplace, and its potential to enhance well-being and establish common ground in a highly interconnected world, make this an appropriate time to significantly expand research on tea science and culture. UC Davis has a bold vision for creating the nation’s first center for the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary study of tea. We envision an international hub where cross-disciplinary research, symposia, lecture series, classes and exhibitions come together under one roof to advance knowledge about this culturally and economically significant beverage.
