Phyllis and Harvey Campbell met as grade school children and only parted ways shortly while they went to college. He chose UC Davis because he ended up loving agriculture while watching his uncle breed gladiolas. While in school, he was captain of the water polo team. He left before actually completing his degree to take a job in the Imperial Valley but worked with his professors to insure that he could graduate still and eventually earned both a bachelor of science degree in plant science in 1951 and later a master's degree in agronomy in 1954. Phyllis worked in the UC Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology while he was in grad school and they developed a mutual love for wine ultimately leading to their 2,000-bottle wine cellar.

Years later, Harvey continued to share his Aggie Pride at the Cal Aggie Alumni Association's annual Woolgrowers Dinner and at their local Aggie Welcome event where he and Phyllis brought his UC Davis water polo blanket to inspire the incoming students, their parents and fellow alumni.

Harvey said he learned a lot while in school and it taught him to be serious and have discipline. They both were glad to have the opportunity and ability to give back to the university in this way. Although Phyllis never attended UC Davis, it holds a special place in her heart filled with good memories from when Harvey was in school and when their daughter earned her UC Davis degree in Art.
