Thank you for your interest in giving to the UC Immigrant Legal Services Center Student Legal Fees Fund, Fall DACA Renewal Drive!
Approximately 200,000 of the 800,000 Dreamers located in the United States reside here in California, and at least 4,000 of those are students attending University of California. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is the program that allows young adults who entered the U.S. as children to be deemed “lawfully present” within the U.S., and provides them with work authorization. Dreamers must pay a $495 filing fee* in order to renew their DACA. Some UC students are forced to choose between paying for basic living necessities and renewing their DACA.
Now more than ever, there is an urgency for students to renew. With the U.S. Supreme Court considering legality of DACA this fall, this could be the last chance for Dreamers to renew their DACA.
Loss of DACA not only jeopardizes students’ ability to work in safe and lawful jobs and to accept career-building internships, but it can also hinder their ability to pursue other forms of immigration relief, and also puts them at greater risk for deportation.
Our $150,000 goal will renew 300 student DACAs. While contributions in any amount are welcome, we invite you to contribute the full amount of one student’s renewal application.** If you have been looking for a way to support those directly impacted by harsh, anti-immigrant policies, your $495 donation would greatly contribute to one UC student’s peace of mind!
Your gift will ensure that UC Dreamers can maintain DACA as long as the program is available, and will help these students to focus on their educations, careers, and families.
