The Matthews Memorial Fund was established to help geology students meet their undergraduate academic and geological pursuits. Bob Matthews was the first environmental geologist hired in the Department of Geology at UC Davis. Due to his close involvement with students throughout his academic career, in 2000 the campus named one of the five courts at The Colleges at LaRue, a student residential complex, in his honor. In memory of Bob, the UC Davis Department of Geology (now Earth and Planetary Sciences) established the Robert Matthews Memorial Fund to further acknowledge his legacy and commitment to students.
