Named for the founder of women's athletics at UC Davis, the Marya Welch Tennis Center serves as the home competition and practice facility for Aggie men's and women's tennis.
A 10-court venue existed on the campus's northeast entry for so long that the adjacent street is officially named Tennis Court Lane. However, it was a sizable donation from Welch herself that spearheaded an $800,000 upgrade project in the early 2000s.
The first phase of this renovation, completed in 2005, added six new championship courts, a center patio, fencing and grand entryway. Canopies covering the players’ benches were added in the fall of 2006. Then when UC Davis football moved from its old Toomey Field home to UC Davis Health Stadium in 2007, the end zone bleachers moved to the tennis center to provide spectator seating for each of the six new courts.
Gifts to this fund will help support additional improvements and amenities to the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
