Honor Service. Advance Justice. Support King Hall Veterans.
Established by UC Davis School of Law alumni and veterans Gary Solis ’71 and Charles McClain ’71, the Solis-McClain Veterans Scholarship Fund provides critical financial support to U.S. military veterans pursuing a legal education at King Hall. This endowed scholarship reflects the founders’ shared commitment to ensuring that no student veteran is denied access to law school due to financial hardship.
The fund honors the sacrifices of those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces by easing the burden of tuition and living expenses during their time at UC Davis School of Law. Eligible recipients include student veterans in any year of their J.D. program, with priority given to those with demonstrated financial need. This fund provides tuition assistance in the form of School of Law awards and scholarships to students in their second or third academic years.
For Solis and McClain—both of whom relied on the GI Bill to attend law school—the creation of this fund was deeply personal. Their vision is simple and powerful: to open doors for fellow veterans and ensure that King Hall remains a welcoming place for those who have served.
Your gift to the Solis-McClain Veterans Scholarship Fund is an investment in justice, public service, and leadership. It honors veterans not only for their past service but also for their future impact as attorneys, advocates, and changemakers.
