The Bruce A. Wolk Scholarship has been established at UC Davis School of Law to recognize a first year student with a scholarship to assist in payment of tuition and/or fees during the recipient’s first year at UC Davis School of Law. The student is selected on the basis of their merit.
Increased tuition and fees at UC Davis School of Law has created challenges for students who want to receive an excellent legal education. The Bruce A. Wolk Scholarship helps incoming students meet this challenge, and furthermore, ensures UC Davis School of Law continues to attract the best and brightest students.
The Bruce A. Wolk Scholarship was established by faculty, students, alumni, and friends to honor Bruce Wolk’s service as dean between 1993 and 1998.
Bruce Wolk grew up in New York and earned a B.S. in mathematics from Antioch College in 1968. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Public Health Service as a computer programmer and statistician. Wolk received an M.S. from Stanford University in physics in 1972 and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1975. He practiced law for three years with the Washington, D.C. law firm of Hogan & Hartson.
In 1978, Wolk joined the UC Davis School of Law faculty specializing in tax law. He become a professor of law in 1982 and earned the UC Davis School of Law Distinguished Teaching Award in 1987. Wolk has taught federal income tax and various advanced tax courses. His research has focused on pension and employee benefit law among other areas. He spent 1985-86 in Munich, Germany on a Fulbright senior research fellowship. Wolk began serving in the Law School dean’s office in 1981 as associate dean, acting dean, and from January 1993 to June 1998, as dean.
