Eric Canady Ruliffson attended UCD from 1964-68, graduating with a BS in mathematics, and excelled at problem-solving, a skill that enabled him to achieve both professional and personal goals. Eric was a Distinguished Naval Graduate from Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI, in 1969, and served in the Navy for three years. After attending graduate school in demography at UC Berkeley, Eric chose to return to employment with Pacific Mutual Insurance Co. in Newport Beach, CA. In 1976 he accepted a position in San Francisco as a pension actuary with the accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand, beginning a long and successful career. He became a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries and eventually a partner with the world’s largest consulting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers. He was elected to the Board of Partners, the first actuary to be so honored, and served until illness forced his resignation.
While at UCD Eric married Sandra Lentine (UCLA’68) and they had two children during their 32 years of marriage.
In his memory, this scholarship was established by family and friends as an effort to support financially needy undergraduates of junior and senior standing majoring in mathematics.
