The state-of-the-art pediatric and cardiac intensive care unit at UC Davis Children’s Hospital offers care for the most critically ill and injured children. Each year, the PICU treats more than 1,400 infants, children and adolescents who experience traumatic injuries or life-threatening infectious diseases, or have undergone surgery to correct complex birth defects such as congenital heart anomalies.
Mortgages and Miracles and Big Valley Mortgage has taken on the challenge to help fund highly needed Exergen thermometers in the PICU. The current thermometers take up to 30 seconds to get a reading and must be placed under the arm of a critically ill child. This can be stressful or irritating for critically ill children, especially babies and toddlers. Current thermometers also require probe covers equaling the purchase and waste of a large volume of garbage. The Exergen thermometers are non-invasive, fast, and comfortable for the patients. They are supported by over 80 peer-reviewed and published clinical studies showing accuracy of temperature readings. Also, the Exergen do not require a cover, so no future waste associated with purchase.
The PICU is need of 30 thermometers for 24 patient rooms, plus 6 extra. This will also cover security tags on each thermometer.
