Castle Lake is a small mountain lake located near Mt. Shasta in Northern California. UC Davis environmental research began there in 1959. Today Castle Lake is part of the California Mountain Lake Network (CaMoLaN), one of many small mountain lakes instrumented to study the effects of climate change on aquatic ecosystems.

In general, donations support research to understand and predict the effect of climate change and other human impacts on small mountain lakes throughout California. More specifically, funds are used to pay for water quality sampling, maintenance of environmental sensors, field and laboratory supplies, and support for undergraduate and graduate student research activities.
