The Central Valley is falling short on one crop that business leaders say is critical to the future of California agriculture: university graduates.
The Central Valley is an area rich in tradition and great potential, but it is also a region faced with a significant challenge in attracting and retaining workforce talent. Many Central Valley youth don’t pursue higher education and, of those that do, few return to the Central Valley after graduation. Stakeholders in the region have expressed the need for a highly qualified and educated workforce in all industry sectors to lead the Central Valley in the global economy of California.
The Central Valley Scholars Program offers a creative solution that addresses not only the need to make higher education affordable for deserving Central Valley students, but also creates opportunities to hone workforce skills through paid internships with Central Valley businesses.
With your support, these outstanding students can take advantage of all that an enriched UC Davis education has to offer―world-class faculty, hands-on research, an entrepreneurial environment, and a public service-oriented community.
