The Summer Math and Science Honors Academy (SMASH) is a free of cost, STEM-intensive college preparatory program to increase attainments of underrepresented high school students of color. SMASH boasts a rigorous 5-week, 3-year summer, full residential STEM enrichment program which provides access to STEM coursework and access to mentors, role models, and support networks of students of color. Each summer, SMASH scholars (starting in the 9th grade) spend five weeks on a college campus (UC Davis, UC Berkeley, Stanford, or UCLA) immersed in STEM and live on campus among other high-potential, under-served, low-income, and first generational college students. 9th grade students from the greater Sacramento Region are invited to apply every fall to the UC Davis campus to select from our unique summer course electives in agriculture, veterinary medicine and even growth biology!
In addition to their summer courses, SMASH scholars remain engaged during the school year through monthly STEM workshops and academic programming. This includes SAT prep, college counseling, financial aid workshops, and other activities to ensure continued academic success. The program not only reinforces the students’ STEM academic identities, but also focuses on developing their critical thinking, social justice, civic awareness, leadership and sense of social responsibility.
With your help, we can continue to send our Sacramento Area young scholars through rigorous STEM training and preparation. Please consider donating above to sponsor a deserving youth for our program!
