Our STEM initiative aims to train a diverse scientific and engineering workforce that reflects the demographics of our nation. With a focus on semiconductor microelectronics, we are adopting an interdisciplinary and hands-on approach that involves various stakeholders, including up to 60 K-12 students, teachers, undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, and industry professionals. Drawing on the expertise of educators, researchers, and organizations in the STEM field, we are developing content that can be implemented through lecture modules, tutorials, workshops, internships, mentorship programs, and other interactive activities. We have initiated pilot programs in underrepresented communities, utilizing industry sponsorships and partnerships with STEM educators to maximize our impact. Specifically, the funds will be to support our INSPIRE (Incubates and Nurtures Scientific Pioneers through Innovation, Research and Education) program. As mentioned, we provide a fun and educational environment for underrepresented youth in two separate groups from Stockton, Sacramento, Davis, and Woodland school districts. Our workshops span from one to three days of hands-on activities and discussions provided by paid and non-paid Engineering professionals, College of Engineering and post-docs, professors, and community activists.
