The Coastal Ocean Resilience and Ecology Lab fund supports a vibrant community of scholars at the UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory working to uncover the foundations of ecosystem resilience: how species and ecosystems respond to and withstand environmental stress.

Led by Dr. Anya Brown, the lab studies tropical coral reefs and local California eelgrass ecosystems. These vital coastal habitats that support biodiversity, fisheries, and the health of our oceans. Using cutting-edge approaches such as next-generation DNA sequencing and innovative ecological experiments, the team explores the relationships between marine species and the microscopic communities that help sustain them. Their research helps answer urgent questions about the future of ocean ecosystems and the services they provide to society.

This fund supports the lab’s mission to advance ocean science while training the next generation of marine scientists. Donations help cover essential research needs, including fieldwork travel, conference participation, community engagement, research supplies, and student stipends. These opportunities allow early career scientists to gain hands-on experience, share discoveries with the public and scientific community, and deepen our collective understanding of ocean systems, from microbes to entire ecosystems.

Your support helps empower undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral researchers, to pursue innovative research and develop leaders in marine science. Every gift helps train and support the next generation of scientists working to understand and protect our oceans.
