Bob Hamilton began coaching basketball shortly after he finished his hall-of-fame playing career with the University of Oregon in the early 1940's. His coaching career spanned across six decades, including stints at the high school, community college, professional and collegiate ranks. The crown jewel of his career, undoubtedly, was his 22 years as the UC Davis head men's coach. During that time, Coach Hamilton guided the Aggies to seven conference championships and over 300 wins. He was inducted into the Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Fame in 1994. Being a coach, however, always meant so much more to Bob Hamilton than wins and losses. As his self-reported graduation rate of 99% and countless testimonials of ex-players, students and colleagues attest to, coach Hamilton represented a coach who believed wholly in the integrity of the term student-athlete and his mission as an educator of the whole person.
