These funds support a unique, interdisciplinary course that enables students to understand the law by visiting the places that gave rise to formative California and federal environmental law decisions. This is a different kind of class, centered on a 4-day field trip throughout California and beyond. Over the course of the trip, the cases and locations tell the story of California water, public land, and environmental law as students explore the relationship between the law and the land. Using world-class teaching locations like Mono Lake, the Sierra Nevada, Mount Shasta, and the Klamath River, this course and the associated field provide students with a detailed look at the law and science (hydrology, ecology, geology) of California environmental law. Funds will support both the field trip and seminar portions of the course to ensure that cost will not be a barrier to student participation.
