Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program

The ITS-Davis SURF Program introduces a select group of motivated undergraduate students to the transportation field through participation in our extensive research program. The program supports a cohort of 15-20 fellows for seven weeks over the summer to participate in ongoing research projects with ITS-Davis academic and research faculty, professional researchers, and graduate students. Fellows also participate in field trips and attend research seminars, increasing their exposure to research topics beyond the projects they’re contributing to.

This unique program prioritizes undergraduates in research, providing a unique experience that sets them apart early in their careers and thus has been an incredible workforce development success. After the summer program ends, many of our fellows either continue working with their research teams, go on to graduate school, and/or go on to work in transportation-related careers. Your support directly supports students and ensures the continuation of this successful program, making a meaningful impact in each fellows’ academic and career journeys.
