Donate to Trauma, Acute Care and General Surgery

The Department of Surgery encompasses a wide variety of surgical specialties. These include bariatric surgery, burn surgery, colorectal surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, endocrine surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, transplant surgery, trauma, acute care and surgical critical care surgery, vascular surgery, and oncologic surgery. The department’s extensive surgical expertise, in combination with ongoing teaching and research activities, provide ample resources and advanced surgical techniques for patient care.

The UC Davis Department of Surgery is dedicated to the training of surgical leaders across all surgical disciplines. The ground work for the department’s educational program was solidified in the late 1970s under the leadership and guidance of Dr. F. William Blaisdell. Dr. Blaisdell’s commitment to training students to become “thinking doctors” versus “cookbook doctors” is ingrained within the faculty at UC Davis and permeates through all of our educational programs.

The department continually seeks to optimize patient care and outcomes via cutting edge research led by expert professors and experienced research staff. We are uniquely equipped to combine clinical expertise and a scientific approach to advance knowledge. We conduct medical research in both clinical and laboratory settings in all of our surgical divisions to develop novel ideas in research which impact patient outcomes, teaching and clinical care.
